Art and creative industries

Visaginas is a city of artists, which surprises with its unique works of art. The city's unique nature invites you to create, which may be why Visaginas is full of people who create sculptures, murals, frescoes, exhibitions...

"Sounds of Nature"

One of the murals in the kitchen is a product of Maria Tiurina's work "Sounds of Nature". The mural was painted in August 2021, so that even today we can see and admire the work of art as we pass by the Visaginas Cultural Centre (Vilties str. 5). Marija Tiurina sees the sounds of nature in Visaginas like this, but how would you see it? What do the city's natural sounds mean to you?

The Miracle of School IV

In the summer of 2022, the abandoned Visaginas IV School was decorated with a new mural by Maria Tiurina. Visaginas artists can turn even spaces that at first glance may seem unattractive and gloomy into a true miracle. A bright and eye-catching mural has now become a new attraction in Visaginas. We invite you to see it!

Art Residence "Point"

Visaginas is a special city of artists. This thesis would be proven once again by the art residence "Taškas" in Visaginas, otherwise known as a home for creative young people. It is a place where anyone can: relax, read poetry, make music, play board games, draw, meditate, learn languages, culture and history and, of course, find like-minded people!

"The Point is a unique place where everyone can find their own path. We invite you to see and experience!

Underground crossing

Visaginas' murals and frescoes are proof that creativity can breathe new life into forgotten corners and change the atmosphere. Just two years ago, this underpass leading to the lake was bleak and dark. Today, it is not only a passage to walk through, but also to look at the colourful paintings on the walls, which symbolise the city's friendship, community and multiethnicity.

Sculpture "The Cat"

The sculpture " The Cat" by V.Umbrasas was created within the framework of the project " The Avenue of Freedom - Sculpture Gallery". In 2005, the city's sculptors decorated the main pedestrian street of Kaunas with their creations overnight - 11 sculptures appeared on the Laisvės Avenue.1 of them can be found today in Visaginas, Tarybų Street. Visaginas residents and tourists, do you have any thoughts on what this sculpture could symbolise?

Mosaic "Man and the elements"

The mosaic "Man and the Elements" depicts the elements of fire, earth, water, air, and the evolution of mankind from the time of rock paintings to the creation of the atom.  In Visaginas, a large part of the houses are red, which is the dominant colour of the mosaic - the colour of fire, energy and human joy. It is with this in mind that the artist created this work of art. And what emotions and feelings does this mosaic evoke in you?

Mural of the art residence "Point"

In 2022, the art residency "Point" with artists from Latvia and Great Britain painted mountains on fence walls in Visaginas (between 11 and 14 Sedulina Avenue). But do you know what message the artists wanted to convey with this mural? Well, the authors wanted to show their respect for the people who came from mountainous areas to build Visaginas.

Sculpture "Dinosaur"

Did you know that climate warming has "woken up" a dinosaur in Visaginas?

A 2.5 x 8 m dinosaur-shaped functional tool for physical activity has taken up residence on the grounds of the Visaginas care home, next to mature trees. The Dinosaur was made by artist Jonas Grunda and is definitely worth a trip to Visaginas with the whole family. It is nice to mention that the residents of the care home were also involved in the process, strengthening the sense of community among them.

Exhibition "Atomic Identity"

Neringa Rekašiūtė, who lived in Visaginas for a while, said: "Visaginas is a city of contrasts, an urban utopia surrounded by impenetrable swamps, forests and lakes. I was very interested in the ethnic, religious and linguistic diversity realised in such a mono-functional format, in a city where there is not a single private house. After settling here, making friends and acquaintances and observing the uniqueness of Visaginas, I realised that I wanted to tell others about it. I am a photographer first and foremost, so this is the medium I chose." The photographer's exhibition "Atomic Identity", displayed on the windows of an abandoned school in Visaginas, invites visitors to explore Visaginas as Neringa saw it.

Mural "Friendship"

Visaginas artist Vladimir Ionov, inspired by the Visaginas Acrobatics School and the New Circus Festival in Visaginas, has painted murals on the Visaginas Draugystės Progymnasium. The process of creation is captured in the video (to see the video, click "more").
